‘All players are on trial…’: Ramiz Raja on Pakistan T20 World Cup squad announcement delay | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Ramiz Raja, the former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), expressed his concerns about Pakistan being the only country that hasn’t revealed its team for the June T20 World Cup.
Pakistan will be the last team to reveal their line-up for the highly anticipated tournament, following Bangladesh’s announcement on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the Men in Green wrapped up their tour of Ireland. Now, on May 22, the Asian Giants will go for England for a four-match Twenty20 International series.
Ramiz expressed his displeasure with Pakistan’s 15-player roster announcement delay. As the management learns to assess the potential of their existing players, he believes that every player is on trial.
“Pakistan is the only team that has yet to announce its squad for the T20 World Cup. Out of 20 teams, 19 have announced their squads. I don’t understand where Pakistan are stuck. They can’t handle the combinations. They are still trying to read the potential. All players are on trial. It feels like every player is on trial,” Ramiz said on his YouTube channel.
The Pakistani pacers have had difficulty establishing a rhythm the entire series. Although he has taken wickets, Shaheen Shah Afridi has been expensive. In their two games together, Mohammad Amir and Naseem Shah claimed four wickets conceding 96 runs.
Hasan Ali replaced Naseem in the third Twenty20 International. In just three overs, Hasan gave up 42 runs at an astonishing economy of 14.00.
The former cricketer discussed the players’ body language. In addition, he questioned the effectiveness of Abbas Afridi, who claimed two wickets but conceded 43 runs.
“Some bowlers look under pressure. Hasan Ali had a bad outing, and Mohammad Amir’s performance was flat. What is the role of Abbas Afridi? He looks like Saim Ayub, a lost cause. You need to announce the World Cup squad quickly because not each player can be on trial,” Ramiz added.
In the third and final T20I of the series, Pakistan defeated Ireland by six wickets on Sunday in Dublin, avoiding a run of losses.
Once more, Babar Azam (75) made an impact at bat, partnering with Mohammad Rizwan (56), for 139 runs. Their collaboration established the groundwork for Pakistan’s triumph following Saim Ayub’s inability to give the squad a perfect start.
“Babar Azam’s strike rate has been outstanding, even in this inning, he played really well. Even though it came against a weak bowling line-up, runs are runs. So it should be considered whether Saim Ayub should be played until his confidence gets ruined,” Ramiz stated.
