The Indian women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated the eighth-seeded Korean pair of Hye Jeong Kim and Hee Yong Kong at the All England Championship.
The World No. 9 pair made a comeback after losing the first game to beat the South Korean duo 15-21, 21-18, 21-18 in a match that lasted almost an hour and a half.
On the other hand, the men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty retired hurt in the second game against China’s Hao Nan Xie and Wei Han Zeng, with the score at 16-21, 2-2, in their round of 16 match.
The Commonwealth Games and Asian Games medallist had defeated the Chinese duo in the 2024 Thailand Open.
Earlier on Thursday, India’s women’s singles campaign ended with Malvika Bansod losing in straight games 21-16, 21-13 against two-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the pre-quarterfinals.
Later on, Lakshya Sen stunned world no. 2 Jonatan Christie of Indonesia 21-13 21-10 to enter the men’s singles quarterfinals.
