After Michael Vaughan, Dinesh Karthik feels Sachin Tendulkar’s record for Most Test runs will be broken by this batsman

As the debate over whether Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar’s world record in Test cricket continues to soar high, the former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik added fresh drama to the matter with his bold and unexpected prediction.

Root continues to build on his remarkable Test career superbly, and Karthik shared his thoughts on the possibility of England’s premier batter surpassing the iconic Indian batter Tendulkar’s long-standing record for the most runs in Test cricket history.

Dinesh Karthik predicts Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar’s Test record

The former England Test captain is currently ranked eighth in the all-time Test run-scorers list, and Karthik has surprisingly claimed that Root has the potential to break Tendulkar’s world record if he maintains his fitness and form over the next few years.

Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of cricket’s greatest batters the game has ever seen, holds the record for most Test runs with a staggering 15,921 runs from 200 Test matches. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is second on the list with 13,378 runs to his name.

On the other hand, the 33-year-old Root, who is currently enjoying a prolific phase in his Test career, has so far amassed 11,942 runs in 143 Test matches. Root needs around 4000 runs to break the Indian legend’s Test record and set a new world record in the longest format of the game.

However, it sounds impossible, but Root’s recent form and age raise the prospect of him achieving the feat. Meanwhile, during a recent discussion on Cricbuzz, Karthik made a bold claim about Root’s potential to break Tendulkar’s Test record.

The cricket pandit predicted that Joe Root could potentially break the Master Blaster’s iconic Test record with a few more years of stunning performances with the bat. Karthik also called Root a gun player.

Furthermore, Karthik believes that if Root maintains his current form and fitness, then the Englishman could overtake Tendulkar’s monumental record and become the highest run-scorer in Test history.

Notably, Root has been in sensational form in the ongoing three-match Test series against the West Indies at home. The right-handed batter has so far amassed 204 runs at an average of 68.00 in the first two Test matches against the West Indies.

Dinesh Karthik said on the Hey CB with DK show: “Root has played 152 (143) Test matches and scored over 11,000 runs (11,942). Sachin Tendulkar has played 200 Test matches. So that would basically mean 48 Test matches more for Joe Root, which would at least take six seasons. And in six seasons, he has to get close to at least 4,500 runs.”

Karthik further said, “Is it a possibility? Joe Root is a gun player; it is a possibility. A couple of things. A – he needs to be really fit through the next six years, and he’ll be 39 by the time he finishes, so it’s not going to be easy, but mathematically, is it possible? Yes.”
