Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz rapped by ICC for angry outburst | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Afghanistan’s opening batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz received a reprimand on Tuesday for his outburst of anger, which involved forcefully smashing his bat against the boundary rope and a chair upon his dismissal during the surprising World Cup victory over England.
Gurbaz had contributed 80 runs to Afghanistan’s total of 284 but expressed his frustration after being run-out during the match held in New Delhi.

In an official statement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) disclosed that Gurbaz was found to have violated the code of conduct related to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match.”
“The incident occurred in the 19th over of Afghanistan’s innings, when after his dismissal, Gurbaz slammed his bat on the boundary rope and a chair,” the ICC statement explained.

Gurbaz admitted the offence and accepted the sanction.
Gurbaz played a pivotal role in the remarkable 69-run upset as he initiated his team’s commanding performance with a formidable 114-run opening partnership alongside Ibrahim Zadran.
