Las Vegas, NV – Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California will play host to the Grade 3 Adoration Stakes this Saturday, June 13. A purse of $100,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares three years old and upward willing to go 1 1/16 miles on Santa Anita’s dirt track.
A field of seven older females including Beholder and Warren’s Veneda have been confirmed for the Adoration – race 8 on Santa Anita’s Saturday schedule. Post time is 4:00 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all seven entries for this Grade 3 stakes.
Beholder – Multiple Graded Stakes Winning Eclipse Award 2013 Champion 3 Year Old Filly, Eclipse Award 2012 Champion 2 Year Old Filly has been impressive for trainer Richard Mandella to say the least. Among her career titles are Breeders’ Cup Distaff – 2013, Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies – 2012, the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes, the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks in 2013 and more recently the Grade 1 Zenyatta Stakes – two starts back. She enters off a win in her first start in 6 1/2 months – in the minor Santa Lucia Stakes on this track April 10 and having put in three quality works ahead of this race including a bullet six furlongs May 27 and a mile drill June 4. With six wins in her last seven starts there is no reason to think that Beholder won’t be a factor Saturday. She lines up in post 4 with Gary Stevens in the irons.
Warren’s Veneda – rising star Craig Lewis trained mare has been steadily improving the last five or so months but enters this week off a disappointing third as 1-10 favorite in the Grade 1 Vanity Stakes here May 9 – a race that was supposed to feature Beholder – an illness held the two-time Eclipse Award winner out. Before that was an impressive three race win streak – by 7 1/4 lengths with a 100 Beyer Speed Figure in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes here March 14, by 3 3/4 lengths in the Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes on this track February 14 and a nice win by 5 1/2 lengths in the minor Paseana Stakes here January 11. Before those scores was a good second behind Tiz Midnight in the Grade 2 Bayakoa Stakes at Los Alamitos and a third in the minor Betty Grable Stakes in November. Warren’s Veneda looks for her fourth win in her last five starts and will have Tyler Baze in the saddle from post 5.
Wild in the Saddle – has 35 career starts for trainer Richard Baltas with eight wins, a second and nine third place finishes but Saturday marks her graded stakes debut. She enters off a disappointing sixth in the minor Fran’s Valentine Stakes here May 23 after consecutive wins – the minor Dream of Summer Stakes on this track March 22 and an Allowance Optional Claiming here in March. Wild in the Saddle has been OK against lesser competition and steps up in competition Saturday from gate 6 with Rafael Bejarano in the irons.

Oscar Party – has three wins, four seconds and four third place finishes in 26 career starts but has placed in just one of her last seven starts overall – that being a third in the minor Santa Lucia Stakes here April 10. She enters off a tenth in the Grade 3 Gallorette Handicap at Pimlico May 16 and has also had a fifth and a tenth this year. Oscar Party was at her best in 2012/2013 when she placed in four stakes races but hasn’t been the same since. Santiago Gonzalez has been tabbed to ride from the outside post 7.
My Monet – makes her graded stakes debut Saturday having recorded five wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 13 career starts. She started her year with a twelfth in the minor Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint but has looked better since. My Monet enters off a third in the minor Fran’s Valentine Stakes here May 23 after consecutive Allowance Optional Claiming scores on this track. She will have Gonzalo Nicholas in the saddle looking for her first graded stakes win from the rail.
Cast in Silver – Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly makes her stakes debut Saturday having won three of six career starts and finishing second in the other three – all at Golden Gate. She has two starts this year – an Allowance Optional Claiming score last time out in May followed a second in a similar race in April. Cast in Silver is a sneaky threat from post 3 with Flavien Prat in the irons.
Grandiose Tactics – John Sadler trained mare has 12 career starts with three wins, five seconds and two third place finishes. She enters off a pair of runner-up finishes in Allowance Optional Claiming races on this track after a win in similar race in February also here. Grandiose Tactics makes a huge leap up in competition Saturday and will have Drayden Van Dyke in the saddle from gate 2.
