Shikhar Dhawan shares special memories from 2013 Champions Trophy, reacts to Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s struggles

As India is gearing up for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Shikhar Dhawan has opened up about a couple of special moments from the team’s last title triumph under MS Dhoni’s captaincy back in 2013. Dhawan was one of the main architects behind India’s title glory.

With a staggering 363 runs across five matches, Dhawan had delivered blistering performances, including two stunning centuries and a crucial half-century, to help the Men in Blue lift their maiden Champions Trophy. He was named Player of the Tournament for his spectacular show.

Shikhar Dhawan was quoted as saying by Times of India, “Lifting the trophy with my teammates after such an intense tournament is one of those moments I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. Honestly, it doesn’t get better than that!”

The former Indian opener also said that Virat Kohli’s hilarious Gangnam Style dance that left the team in laughter is also another special memory that he could never forget in his life. Dhawan further noted, “Another memory I’ll never forget is Virat’s Gangnam Style dance after the win—it was hilarious and had all of us laughing.”

I will keep the dressing room moments in my heart forever: Shikhar Dhawan

He continued, “I also scored a century in my comeback match against South Africa and another one against the West Indies. But what stands out the most to me is the time spent in the dressing room with the team—those moments of fun, discussions, and team spirit were truly special. I miss them and will keep them in my heart forever.”

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan also shared his views on the concerns over Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s poor form with the bat ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, as their Ranji Trophy return was also just a disappointment following their disastrous Australia tour.

However, the former Indian cricketer has full confidence in the abilities of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, saying both are world-class players and legends of the game. Dhawan mentioned that every player goes through tough phases, but he is confident that they will bounce back strongly.

Shikhar Dhawan backs Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to bounce back stronger in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Dhawan signed off by saying, “Virat and Rohit are both world-class players. They’re legends of the game at this point in their careers, and I have complete confidence in their abilities. Every player goes through rough patches, but that doesn’t define them. A couple of bad performances here and there won’t change what they’re capable of. We all know what Rohit and Virat can do—they’ve proven it time and again. I have no doubt they’ll bounce back stronger and continue to deliver for the team.”

Notably, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will both look to regain their form in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England at home ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as this event could be their last ICC tournament in the national colours.
