BCCI announces massive cash reward for India Women’s U-19 team

The BCCI extended its congratulatory message to the young girls and announced a cash reward of INR 5 Crore for the winning India Under-19 women’s team and the support staff which was led by the head coach Nooshin Al Khadeer.

With this win, India successfully defended its Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup title as well. The team had also won the inaugural edition of the tournament held in 2023 in South Africa, under the leadership of Shafali Verma.

It is also their second ICC title in women’s cricket and both have come at the junior level. It shows the depth of talent that the country possesses at the moment, whether it’s men’s or women’s cricket.

India spinners dominate again

It was a dominating display by India in the final. Coming into the final as a dominating force, the team was on the money from the first ball. South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first in an attempt to put the pressure of the final back on the opposition.

But their bowlers were too good on the day, as they have been throughout the tournament. The Proteas collected 10 runs off the first over and it seemed like their devastating opener Jemma Botha was on to something special.

However, things started changing when Parunika Sisodia bowled the next over. The left-arm spinner provided her team with the first breakthrough by picking up the wicket of Simone Lourens. It was just the start they were looking for.

Fast bowler Shabnam Shakil scalped out Botha for 16 as South Africa were dealt a huge blow. Their innings hardly got back on track from there onwards. There was a brief partnership of 30 runs for the sixth wicket which raised the possibility of them closing out on the 120-run mark.

However, allrounder Gongadi Trisha broke the partnership with the big wicket of Mieke van Voorst for 23 off 18 balls. South Africa added just 8 more runs to their tally and were bundled out for just 82. Indian spinners shared nine wickets between them.

Gongadi Trisha shines with bat

In reply, India gave no chance to the opposition despite the pressure of playing in a final. The first wicket partnership yielded 36 runs but the wicketkeeper Kamalini was dismissed for 8.

However, Gongadi Trisha and the vice-captain Sanika Chalke didn’t allow any other wicket to fall afterward and took India home comfortably in the end. Trisha continued her dream run and played another blinder of a knock in the final.

She finished on an unbeaten 44 off 33 balls while Chalke struck 26 off 22 balls to remain not out till the end. Chalke also smashed the winning runs to give India their second title in a row. Trisha was picked as the Player of the Match in the final and the Player of the Series.
