Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi provided an update about the opening batter Fakhar Zaman. He said that the selection committee knows better about the situation but mentioned whoever performs well will play for the Pakistan National Cricket Team.
Pakistan National Cricket Team batter Fakhar Zaman has been nowhere near the scenes around the National team. This has been since the last few months after he was involved in a tussle with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over Babar Azam’s snub from Tests.
Fakhar Zaman criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board for dropping Babar Azam and paid heavy price for his tweet
Babar Azam was dropped mid-way through the Test series against the England National Cricket Team. This made Fakhar criticize the Pakistan Cricket Board for dropping the batter, saying that they need to value their players, and not including the premier batter sends the wrong message.
After this tweet, Fakhar Zaman was issued notice by the Pakistan Cricket Board. But after the hearing, they decided to go light on the batter and claimed that the batter will be making a comeback into the team soon, especially with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner.
But so far, there hasn’t been any positive development related to the batter. Fakhar Zaman has been continuously playing domestic cricket and has been proving his fitness. But the team management and captain Mohammad Rizwan mentioned that the batter was suffering from some kind of illness.
Ask the selection committee about Fakhar Zaman, whoever performs well will play for Pakistan – Mohsin Naqvi
They mentioned that once he is fit, he will be included in the team. Chairman of PCB Mohsin Naqvi, who attended the media, was asked about the situation surrounding batter. He mentioned that the selection committee would be able to answer the question better.
Mohsin Naqvi also talked about the resignation of red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie, saying that they had made him part of the selection committee and didn’t give him authority to make all the decisions. He elaborated:”
“Ask the selection committee about Fakhar Zaman. Whoever performs well will play for Pakistan.”
“The head coach’s job is not to make selections, it’s to coach. Jason Gillespie was only a member of the PCB selection committee and was not given the entire authority of decision-making in the selection of the Pakistan Cricket Team. Only one person cant make every decision.”
Jason Gillespie stepped down as the red-ball head coach of the Pakistan National Cricket Team
Jason Gillespie recently stepped down as the red-ball head coach of the Pakistan National Cricket Team. He mentioned that he wasn’t made aware of developments taking place and didn’t know his assistant coach, Tim Nielsen, had been told to go, adding that PCB made his job tough.
Jason Gillespie also mentioned that he had to ask selectors about sharing squads for the South Africa series but he got no response. He said that things like these made him think if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) really wants him as a coach or not.
