NEW DELHI: A day after being picked by the Australian selectors for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Sam Konstas had a disappointing outing as he was dismissed for a three-ball duck in the Big Bash League clash in Sydney.
Konstas’s last innings before a potential Test debut didn’t go as planned a he got out in the very first over of the Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers game.
It was the first match for Konstas after being named in Australia’s Test squad and he was dismissed by Sixers’ Akeal Hosein, chopping on a ball back onto his stumps.
The unfortunate dismissal was a sharp contrast to his BBL debut just five days ago where he scored the fastest fifty in Thunder’s history against Adelaide.
Konstas is expected to make his Test debut for Australia during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after replacing Nathan McSweeney in the squad.
The 19-year-old impressed with a score of 107 in the warm-up game against India. He followed that up with a valuable 88 against Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield.
During the BBL game, Konstas said that he cannot wait to take on the Indian bowlers in the Boxing Day Test, highlighting he already has a ‘few plans’ for Jasprit Bumarh and Co if he gets the nod in the fourth game.
“I’ve got a few plans against those (Indian) bowlers. Feeling like I’m moving really nice and hopefully I get that opportunity,” Konstas told Fox Cricket.
“I’m just going to react to the ball and show a bit of intent and put a bit of pressure back on the bowlers,” he added.
