‘Can’t compare Jasprit Bumrah to Malcolm Marshall because…’

Legendary Australian cricketer Allan Border was full of praises for India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Border hailed Bumrah for the recent milestone that he achieved in the ongoing Test series between Australia and India and even compared him with Malcolm Marshall.

Bumrah has been the pick of the bowlers from both teams so far. The 31-year-old fast bowler has carried India’s inexperienced bowling attack on his shoulders. While the other Indian bowlers have struggled so far, Bumrah has been relentless with his wicket-taking abilities.

Jasprit Bumrah achieves unique milestone

Jasprit Bumrah reached a significant milestone when he picked up the wicket of Mitchell Starc on the third day of the Gabba Test. With this wicket, he completed 50 Test wickets in Australia, which is a massive feat.

Bumrah is now only behind the great Kapil Dev on the list of highest wicket-takers for India in Tests on Australian soil. Kapil has picked up 51 wickets in 11 Tests at an average of 24.58 with 5 five-wicket hauls.

On the other hand, Bumrah currently has 50 wickets to his name in 10 Tests at a staggering average of 17.82 with 3 five-wicket hauls. With one more innings in the ongoing Test and two more Tests to be played in this series, it is only a matter of time before Bumrah breaks Kapil Dev’s record.

While speaking to the News Corp, Allan Border lauded Jasprit Bumrah for achieving this milestone and even compared him to the legendary West Indies fast bowler Malcom Marshall. Border also admitted that Bumrah releases the ball late because of his unique action which makes it even more difficult for the batters to read him.

“I can’t properly compare him to (Malcolm) Marshall because I never faced Bumrah but just watching him there is not much (between them). Bumrah is remarkable. He rarely bowls a spell without taking a wicket. He is different,” Border said.

“Because of his action, he lets the ball go later. And he smiles all the time. He can beat a batsman three times in a row and smile each time. I have never seen anyone like him,” he added.

Jasprit Bumrah’s fine bowling performance

Jasprit Bumrah has taken 18 wickets in the series so far in five Test innings. He recently picked up a brilliant six-wicket haul in the first innings of the Gabba Test and finished on 6-76. He dismissed five out of the top six Australian batters in this innings.

Bumrah is the highest wicket-taker of the series but has lacked support from the other Indian quicks, who have struggled for rhythm. He led the team in the first Test at Perth and almost single-handedly won India the match.

India desperately needs other bowlers to fire to complement Bumrah in the remaining matches of the series. Currently, the Men in Blue are struggling at Gabba and will need a miracle to come back into the game.
