Shubman Gill is ready to face the challenging Australian pace attack at the Gabba in the third Test starting Saturday. The bouncy pitch is known to be tough for touring batters.
Gill’s Test career began at the Gabba nearly four years ago during the deciding fourth match of the 2020-21 series. As a 21-year-old opener playing in his third Test, Gill scored a crucial 91. This contributed to India’s record chase of 328 runs, securing a 2-1 series victory.
While Rishabh Pant was Player-of-the-Match for his unbeaten 89, Gill was also celebrated for his important role in the thrilling win.
Gill is happy to return to the Gabba for the third Test of the current five-match series, which is currently tied at 1-1.

Much has changed since India’s last Gabba Test.
In 2021, Ajinkya Rahane captained the injury-depleted Indian side, as Virat Kohli had returned home.
Both Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara are no longer part of the team. However, Kohli and current captain Rohit Sharma remain.
Rohit missed India’s first Test victory in Perth due to the birth of his son. He returned for the second Test in Adelaide but scored only nine runs. Rohit’s low score in the second Test, where India lost by 10 wickets, has raised questions about his position in the team.
While captains usually address the media before a Test match, Rohit was absent from both the press conference and training on Friday.
“Yeah, this was an optional practice session and I think he practised enough.”
Gill mentioned that Rohit expects more from the batters as a unit in Brisbane, especially after India was bowled out twice for under 200 in Adelaide.
“We are looking to post a big total first up.”
“We are a bit more used to playing with the red ball in the day.”
India will aim to improve their batting performance after struggling in the second Test. The outcome of this Test will heavily influence the direction of the series. Gill’s performance at the top of the order will be critical for India’s success. The team will aim to capitalize on their experience with the red ball under daylight conditions. The Gabba holds positive memories for India, particularly after their historic win in 2021.
