Former India Women’s National Cricket Team player Jhulan Goswami is all set to join the elite list of Bengal players. The fast bowling maestro will be getting one of the stands at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata named after her.
Jhulan Goswami will be having the Block B gallery of Eden Gardens renamed in her honor. The newly built stand will be inaugurated on 22 January 2025, during India Women’s first T20I against England Women’s National Cricket Team.

Goswami will become the third person to have a stand at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. She will be joining former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and ICC President Jagmohan Dalmiya and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly.
The Cricket Association of Bengal reportedly was planning to name the stand after Goswami since 2022 but was awaiting permission from the Defence Ministry, as the land belongs to the defence. But the clearance was granted on Tuesday and the initiative was taken.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) official talked about the development, saying that Goswami has been a legend of the game. He also revealed that they have got the permission and the inauguration will be taking place on the day of the India-England match. He said:
“Jhulan is a legend, and it was only fitting that a stand be named in her honour. Now that permission has been obtained, the inauguration will take place on the day of the India-England match.”
Known as the Chakdah Express, Goswami has been the best pacer to have played women’s cricket. She represented the India Women’s National Cricket Team for 20 years and achieved great things for the team with her staggering performances with the ball.

Goswami called time on her career after playing the ODI against the England Women’s National Cricket Team in 2022. She claimed 355 wickets across all formats for India Women’s National Cricket Team. The former fast bowler of the Indian team still holds the record for most wickets in women’s ODIs.
Jhulan Goswami picked 44 wickets in 12 Tests, averaging 17.36 at an economy of 2.02. She took 56 wickets in the women’s T20I format, averaging 21.94 at an economy of 5.45. In the ODI format, Goswami took 255 wickets in 204 matches, averaging 22.04.
Jhulan Goswami, after her retirement, joined as the bowling coach and mentor of Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League. Apart from this, she also is working as a mentor for Bengal’s senior women’s team.
