Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and has sought clarification on India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan. As per the reports in PTI, it is learned that the governing body so far hasn’t heard anything about the Hybrid model.
India’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has become a major topic in the cricketing world. This is because BCCI reportedly has denied giving clearance to the Indian team to travel to Pakistan, where the tournament is scheduled to be played next year in February and March.
BCCI didn’t get the green signal from the Indian government to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025
BCCI didn’t get a green signal from the Indian government, and hence, they wrote to ICC that they wouldn’t be traveling to Pakistan. Since then, lots of talks have been made about the Hybrid model. There have been reports which claimed that India would be playing their games in Dubai or Sri Lanka while the rest of the tournament will be played in Pakistan.
Since then, several experts from both countries have shared their verdicts on the same. The International Cricket Council is also expected to announce the schedule for the tournament in the coming days, but it is learned that they will be releasing only the schedule for the games.
Email sent to the ICC with the advice of its legal department in which the Board wanted clarifications from the ICC – PCB source
With India not ready to travel to Pakistan, a source close to PCB has mentioned that they have emailed ICC to get clarifications on the Indian decision. He also said that they are monitoring every situation and are in touch with the government as well for consultation and directives. Speaking to PTI, he explained:
“There is no talk about having the Champions Trophy on a Hybrid Model system as of now. An email is to be sent to the ICC with the advice of its legal department in which the Board wanted clarifications from the ICC on the Indian decision.
“As of now, the entire situation is being gauged by the PCB. No decision has been taken on the next step. Yes the PCB is in touch with the government for consultation and directives if required.”
There would be legal implications from commercial partners – PCB source on India not travelling to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025
The source further mentioned that if India doesn’t travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 then commercial partners would raise legal implications. He mentioned that the ICC has provided assurance to broadcasters and sponsors in all nations. He added:
“There would be legal implications from commercial partners as the ICC has provided undertakings to the broadcasters and sponsors that all top cricket-playing nations will participate in its tournaments,” the source concluded.
India haven’t played any cricket in Pakistan since 2008. Due to political tensions, the two teams only lock horns with each other in the ICC events and Asia Cup. It remains to be seen what will be the future of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
