The spotlight was on the India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli during the net session ahead of the third Test against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The last match of the series is all set to take at the iconic Wankhede Stadium from 1st November (Friday).
India batter Virat Kohli has been struggling to get going in the ongoing series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The batter, in particular, hasn’t looked comfortable against the spinners and has perished thrice to the slow bowlers in the two games of the series.
Virat Kohli focused on tackling the left-arm spin threat
Virat Kohli, who averages just 28 against spin in the last three years, was dismissed by Mitchell Santner twice in the Pune Test. As per the reports in Indian Express, it is learned that during the net session, they focused on tackling the left-arm spin threat, potentially working on taking on New Zealand in the spinner.
Kohli also focused on playing the uncharacteristic reverse sweep against the spinners. After that, he asked the spinners to vary their length while maintaining the off-stump line. This saw the batter also play a variety of shots against those deliveries and timing the ball to perfection.
Virat Kohli after tackling net bowlers takes on Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav
As the net session progressed, Virat Kohli upped the intensity and played aggressive shots against the left-arm spin bowlers. The batter came down the track as well for big shots and also executed the cut and pull shot each time a short-of-a-length delivery was dished out.
After battling out against the net bowlers, Virat Kohli then started playing against Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. The batter looked in a positive mindset, and with the way he batted, he would be keen to make a big impact for the team in the last game of the series.
Gautam Gambhir has conversations with players ahead of the net session
The reports also claimed that India head coach Gautam Gambhir had a conversation with players. This comes after the players had completed their warm-up routines and assembled for a team huddle, including the support staff.
Gambhir was seen doing most of the talking and skipper Rohit Sharma also shared his insights in between. However, after that, only the players met again on the side of the nets, where Gambhir talked for about 20 minutes.
India National Cricket Team have suffered a series loss at home after 12 long years. They faced losses in both the games of the series and it saw Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma facing a lot of flak. They also have lost ICC World Test Championship points.
This has seen a massive hit to their chances to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship final. They are currently at the top of the table and to stay in contention now, they need to win the next game as well as 3 games in Australia.
