Las Vegas, NV – The 2014 Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita kicks off Friday, October 31. One of the races contested on that day will be the Grade 1 Juvenile Turf – a one mile test for some of the best two year olds in the world. A purse of $1 million will be on the line.

A full field of 14 plus two Alternate Entries have been confirmed for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf – race 8 on Santa Anita’s busy Breeders’ Cup Friday card. Post time is 3:50 PM. Let’s take a peek into the past performances of all 16 possible combatants for this Grade 1 stakes.

Hootenanny 3-1 – was a maiden winner at first asking at Keeneland in April and followed that with an OK third in the minor Rollicking Stakes at Pimlico in May before heading to Europe where he won a stakes at Ascot and finishes a good third in the Group 1 Darley Prix Morny in France in August. He makes his first start beyond six furlongs but is favored in the race. Frankie Dettori gets the call from post 5.

War Envoy 9-2 – Aidan O’Brien trained colt has seven career starts with one win, a second and three third place finishes. He is coming off a fifth in a Group 1 race at Longchamp after a second and consecutive thirds in stakes races this past summer. He looks for his first wins since April (six starts). Ryan Moore gets the call aboard the morning line second choice from post 7.

Imperia 6-1 – Kiaran McLaughlin trained colt is coming off a terrific win in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park September 28 which followed a second in his debut at Saratoga August 23. Off a win, Imperia is an intriguing 6-1 and will depart from gate 11 with Javier Castellano aboard.

Luck of the Kitten 8-1 – looked good last time out in winning the minor Zuma Beach Stakes here October 5. That followed a good second in the minor Kentucky Dows Juvenile September 6 and a maiden score in his seconds start – at Arlington in August. He has two wins and a second in three career starts and hopes to keep the roll going with Mike Smith in the saddle from post 3.

Commemorative 8-1 – British bred colt has looked good in three starts – two straight wins including a G3 last out October 11 at Newmarket and a sharp maiden score September 11. James Doyle rides this impressive colt from post 4 Friday.

Conquest Typhoon 12-1 – Mark Casse pupil started his career with second place finishes in his first two races – a MSW August 3 and the minor Clarendon Stakes in July – both results at Woodbine. He went on to a nice win in the Grade 2 Summer Stakes September 13 and was recently second in the Grade 2 Grey Stakes October 5. Conquest Typhoon makes his first start away from Woodbine from post 6 with Patrick Husbands in the saddle.

Aktabantay 12-1 – G3 winner in U.K. in August is coming off a sixth in the same Group 1 race in France as War Envoy. Aktabantay has two wins and three seconds in six career starts and looks to rebound from his worst career performance. Oliver Peslier will be in the reins from post 9.

Startup Nation 12-1 – Chad Brown trained colt is coming off a disappointing fourth in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park September 28 after a good win in the Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga in August. His first career start was a maiden score. Startup Nation looks for a strong bounce back as Joel Rosario gets the call from gate 10 Friday.

International Star 15-1 – Michael Maker trained colt is coming off a nice win in the Grade 3 Grey Stakes at Woodbine October 5 after a good second in the Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga in August. His first two career starts resulted in a respectable second in the minor Rockville Centre Stakes at Belmont Park July 13 after a maiden score in his debut on that same track June 21. John Velazquez rides from post 12.

Wet Sail 15-1 – has a win and two third place finishes in his native Britain – one of those thirds coming in a 23 horse field. His only win came two back in a 12-horse files at Salisbury two back. He leaves from the rail with Jamie Spencer guiding him.

Daddy D T 15-1 – John Sadler trainee posted an impressive win in the minor Oak Tree Juvenile Turf Stakes at Del Mar September 3 after a pedestrian sixth in his debut – a MSW at Del May August 9. Last time out was a somewhat disappointing fifth in the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes on this track September 27. Daddy D T looks to bounce back Friday with Corey Nakatani aboard from gate 2.

Lawn Ranger 20-1 – has two wins and a second place finish in three career starts for trainer Kenneth McPeek. He broke maiden at Kentucky Downs September 13 after a second in a similar race at Ellis Park August 1 but broke out big time last time out – a good win in the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland October 5. He looks to build on some momentum when he leaves from gate 13 with Chris Landeros in the reins.

Danny Boy 20-1 – Dale Romans trained colt finished an OK fourth in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs September 6 and followed that with a respectable second behind Lawn Ranger in the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes. He also had a maiden score in his debut August 1. Danny Boy hopes to better Lawn Ranger from the outside post with Julien Leparoux guiding him.

Offering Plan 20-1 – Chad Brown trained colt is coming off a third in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park September 28 which followed a maiden score in his debut at Saratoga in August. Irad Ortiz gets the call from gate 8.

The Great War 8-1 – highly regarded Aidan O’Brien trained colt has seven career starts with three wins and a second place finish. He is coming off a nice win in a stakes at Curragh after an uncharacteristic eleventh and a second back in August.
