Former Pakistan allrounder Imad Wasim has slammed his country’s outdated style of cricket that has led to the team’s decline in the last few years. Imad Wasim also claimed that he used to raise this issue during his playing days but didn’t receive any support.
Pakistan cricket is going through one of its difficult times currently as they suffered a shocking first round exit from the recently concluded Champions Trophy. They were brutally criticised for the failure to make it to the semi-finals despite being the hosts.
One of the main reasons for their decline is their outdated style of cricket, which hasn’t worked its way. The batters have been unable to change their gears according to the modern day requirements while the bowlers have hardly been penetrative enough to cause any trouble to the opposition.

Imad Wasim breaks slams Pakistan’s outdated approach
While speaking to PakPassion, Imad Wasim spoke about Pakistan’s old school type of cricket which has caused them more harm in recent times. He claimed that the members in his team didn’t believe and laughed when he raised the issue initially.
Wasim further admitted that the other teams are playing aggressively at a time when Pakistan are playing a conservative brand of cricket. This kind of cricket has led to their decline in recent times.
“I’ve been saying this for years, and people were laughing at me firstly when I started saying these things. Even in the team meetings, I used to say these things. The world is going on a different path and we are (still) playing the same way,” Wasim said.

Pakistan’s dismal performance in CT 2025
Pakistan crashed out of the group stage of Champions Trophy, a tournament where they were the hosts. The Men in Green failed to qualify for the semi-final stage as they lost their first two matches to New Zealand and India respectively.
They faced plenty of criticism due to this shocking defeat from the country’s former cricketers and experts. The difference between them and the other teams was clearly visible as Pakistan just couldn’t match the might and brand of cricket of the other teams.
The batters failed to score quick runs and were stuck in the shell on most of the occasions. The bowlers too lacked sharpness and consistency, resulting in the opposition batting line-ups coming out triumphant on most of the times.
Pakistan have crashed out of the first stage in the last three ICC tournaments now. They failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 and then lost to USA to bow out of the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Imad Wasim’s last international appearance
Imad Wasim last played an international match in June 2024 against Ireland during the T20 World Cup 2024. After Pakistan were knocked out of the tournament, Wasim confirmed his international retirement for the second time in his career.
He had already retired in 2023 after the ODI World Cup but took it back after some stellar performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to be back in Pakistan colors for the T20 World Cup 2024.
