$1.7M Earner Somelikeithotbrown Retired Due to Injury

Somelikeithotbrown , a four-time New York-bred champion and earner of more than $1.7 million, has been retired due to an injury to his right rear leg, co-owner Dr. Harvey Diamond said Sept. 29.

A cleverly named 7-year-old son of Big Brown   out of the Tapit   mare Marilyn Monroan , Somelikeithotbrown recorded eight of his 10 victories in stakes, four times at the graded level, notably in the 2020 Bernard Baruch Handicap (G2T) and 2021 Dinner Party Stakes (G2T). He also picked up stakes-placings in 12 black-type races, including when third in the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) and 2021 Keeneland Turf Mile Stakes (G1T).

The Mike Maker trainee raced 33 times for owners Skychai Racing and David Koenig from ages 2 to 7, finishing his career with a second-place finish in the Hudson Valley Stakes at Belmont Park July 3. He remained in training through mid-September.

He earned his connections additional breeding awards. His owners bred him under their affiliated Hot Pink Stables and Sand Dollar Stables.

“He was kind of like hitting the lottery; he really was. Who would have thought?” said Diamond, who heads Skychai Racing with Jimmy Shircliff.

With Somelikeithotbrown winding down at a farm in Kentucky, his owners are exploring the possibility of standing him at stud.

Somelikeithotbrown was among the top-earning horses for Skychai Racing, who previously campaigned multiple graded stakes winner Da Big Hoss  and Hansen , the 2-year-old champion male of 2011, the latter with majority partner Dr. Kendall Hansen.
